Armor

Valind wrote:When you first practice armour at Jak, or any other of the many trainers, you might wonder why you can't wear plate, like in other games. The answer is simple. What kind of person can walk around in a full set or armour the day he starts training?

Now, your armour practice percent can only be trained until the percent equals the points of armor you have. To check the points, type stat. There should be a line that says something like:

Average abs: 50% (54 points)

Points are gained as follows:
Leather = 2
Strengthened Leather = 4
Chainmail= 8
Plate = 16

To train up your armour skill, one first needs armour. To start off, try buying from leather shops in cities or towns. Anything with the tag (Leather ) or (Strengthened ) can be worn. Walk around, get some xp. Don't worry if you fall over. This is a normal part of training armor. Notice while walking after a while, a message "You feel more proficient with armor." appears? This shows that your armor skill has increased further.

After you've reached about 25% armor, try switching out some leather for chainmail as you go about and get cash. As it increases further to about 56% armor, head around and get some plate items. If you can't afford them or even find them, ask around, people should be willing to help, if they can.

There are 10 places to wear armor, though up to four leather collars can be worn to push your armor points over to 25% so you can wear chainmail. Those places are

Head - helmets
Neck - gorget
Shoulders - pauldrons
Body3 - breastplates/vests/jerkins
Arms - rerebrace/sleeves
Forearms - vambrace/bracers
Wrists - bands/guards
Hands - gauntlets/gloves
Legs - leggings/greaves
Feet - boots

(From help file "ARMOR ARMOUR")

Well, that's my pence for the day. Hopefully if there are any places lacking, other people can point them out.

Here is the original armor help file that is being blocked by the new armor command. I'll combine them as I go through the help files.

ARMOR ARMOUR

Here in our world, armor takes skill to use as it should. Who would be able to
put on a full suit of plate mail their first day out on the practice field? The
way this skill works is a little complex and we'll try to explain it as best we
can. The basics are you practice the skill armor, then go out and buy or find
simple leather armor and wear it. If you wear enough your skill will go up as
you walk about getting used to it. Then when it maxes out you can move up to
the next level such as tough leather and banded leather, then to chain mail and
finally to plate mail at mastery levels.

There are 10 spots on which you can wear armor. Each piece of armor,
depending on its 'armor strength' has a point value. The point value
you are wearing must exceed your skill % for your skill to increase.
simple leather = 2, strengthened leather = 4, chain = 8, plate = 16

The positions are:
Head - helmets, Neck - gorget,
Shoulders - pauldrons, Body3 - breastplates/vests/jerkins,
Arms - rerebrace/sleeves, Forearms - vambrace/bracers,
Wrists - bands/guards, Hands - gauntlets/gloves,
Legs - leggings/greaves, Feet - boots.

Usage: armor

This will display the equipment that you are wearing in each spot that counts
as armor. Depending on the type of armor it will have a different symbol next
to the item:

) - leather armor
+ - strengthened leather
% - chainmail
] - plate armor

Example output:
Armor status: skill(41) worn(68)
on head % a battered helm strung with chain mesh
around neck + a gorget made of leather, reinforced with various metallic spikes
on body + a thick hide shirt sewn with scraps of mail
on shoulders % double-layered, heavy chainmail and steel plate pauldrons
on arms % a pair of dented, rusty rerebraces of flimsy plate and chainmail
on forearms % a pair of cruely forged vambraces of bloody, rusted chainmail
left wrist % a heavy rusted wristguard, of chainmail and boiled human hide
right wrist % a heavy rusted wristguard, of chainmail and boiled human hide
on legs % a pair of tattered scale leggings patched with black iron rings
on feet + a pair of large, bloodstained boots made of human hide
