The Void

Post by Aruon »

He'd hadn't felt this alone in a very long time. He knew Daneidor was scouting out the tunnels ahead while Aruon himself caught his breath. Moments before, he had doused out his lantern, creating impenetrable darkness. Now he could hear, and smell, with heightened senses. The Void kept him focused, kept him passive about what men fear.

But the feeling of loneliness crept into the Void, making it hard to maintain. He had screwed up as a Warder, and could still feel the strong anger the bond was sending. That alone was a terrible distraction. But it also worried him. Unintentionally, his hand began to shake a bit. His sword hand.

Why was he not fully in control of himself within the Void. The emotions and memories blew breath on the boundaries of it This was not how a Gaidin was supposed to be. Arleve wasn't even here with him, instead it was a new friend from the Waste.

It was good company, sure, and reliable in a tight spot. Yet a large part of him felt incomplete.

As he stood and went to listen to Daneidor's report of the numbers and types of Shadowspawn, one feeling came from his side of the bond strongly.

Regret.

Knowing that he regretted letting his situations get so bad, regretted trying to toss away all emotions for the sake of getting stronger. Strong enough to protect his friends, what few remained. Strong enough that his skills would actually be an asset to Arleve, the person who had put such an important trust in him.

As they fought on through the waves of Shadowspawn, he waited patiently for any kind of emotion to return.

The bond remained quiet.
