Changes to Items That Assist Regeneration (Update #4)

Post by Dineal »

Numerous improvements and a few changes have been made to the functioning of current items that assist player regeneration of hit points and movement points (e.g. blankets, pillows, cots):

1. Multiple such items set down in a single room will not have their effects added together for a single character.

2. For items that can accommodate two chracters, both characters sitting, resting or sleeping on them will receive assisted regeneration. Remember to share!

3. Even if a character's hit points are maximal, they will receive assisted movement points regeneration if their movement points are not maximal (i.e. hit point and movement point regeneration are separate).

4. Any number of different blankets, pillows and/or cots can be in the same room, being used by as many chracters as they can accomodate or less, and each player will recieve the correct assisted regeration rates depending on whether they are sitting, resting or sleeping.

5. If character one picks up such an item that character two is using, character two's assisted regeneration will stop appropriately.

6. Now, most words from the names of the items are acceptable (e.g. "sit pillow", "sit gray", "sit sitting", etc. all activate assisted regeneration for "A small gray pillow meant for sitting lies here.").

7. The delay to begin assisted regeneration has been shortened appropriately (i.e. it now takes 10 seconds to begin, just as it takes 10 seconds between each regeneration instance).

8. If a character using an item has their position change from sitting, resting or sleeping, by any means (e.g. the character is attacked), they will automically stand up and step off the blanket, stopping their assisted regeneration appropriately.

9. Where appropriate, a certain few blankets have been changed from being able to accommodate only 1 character to 2.

10. Assisted regeneration instance messages indicate which rate of regeneration is being received.

Note that regeneration rates of hit point and movement points have not been changed.

Also note that no new such items have been added as of the date of this post. It is how they function that is different.

Thanks to: Belgar, for creating his blanket regen script; Zarrin, for helping with design and suggesting changes to implement; Adol, for testing; and Ganelon and Shawnyve, for putting up with testing spam and helping with scripting.

The following modifications have been made to the above changes and improvements:

1. A character who stands up on such an item without stepping off of it (e.g. entering "stand" rather than "stand up", having their hit points restored via a character who can channel the One Power targeting them with Healing weaves) will no longer be forced to step off of it. Instead, they will be forced to sit, rest, or sleep if they were previously sitting, resting or sleeping.

The purpose of this is to maintain assisted regeneration for characters who are being targeted with Healing weaves by channelers.

To get off of the item that you are using to recieve assisted regeneration, enter "stand up".

2. In order to reduce both the amount and redundancy of messages recieved during receiving assisted regeneration, messages that indicate which rate of regeneration is being recieved (e.g. "You feel your vigor returning slowly as you sit.") will be shown only upon the first instance and for any instances that said rate changes (e.g. if a character who is resting on such an item sits up, the next regeneration instance will show a message to indicate that the regeneration rate has changed).

Further such modifications have been made:

1. In the interest of further reducing the amount of messages recieved during receiving assisted regeneration (and viewing it when someone else is using such an item), the instances have been extended to 30 seconds apart (from 10 seconds).

What this also means is that you will need to wait 30 seconds after sitting on your pillow, blanket, etc. for assisted regeneration to begin.

Upon each 30-second instance, the appropriate amounts of hit points and movement points will be restored.

2. The rates of assisted regeneration of hit points and movement points have been changed.

The rates of both are now roughly twice the base normal rates for Wetlanders for sitting/resting/sleeping without an item that assists regeneration (e.g. a character sitting on a blanket will regenerate hit points and movement points twice as fast as they would sitting without a blanket).

3. Maintaining character position has been improved upon: Standing up without stepping off the blanket, for any reason, will see you returned to your previous position almost instantaneously.

4. Messages that show the rate of regeneration that you are receiving will now show for every instance that you regenerate movement points without regenerating hitpoints.

One change and one addition have been made to assisted regeneration:

What's the change?

The change is that movement points regeneration has been separated from that of hit points.

Movement points now regenerate seamlessly, on a per-second basis.

Note that this also means that you won't see regeneration messages with respect to movement points.

What's the addition?

Items that assist regeneration of hit and movement points now also assist regeneration of mana for channelers.

Mana renegeraton is also seamless, like that of movement points.

The mana regeneration rate with such an item is 10% faster than without one.

Anything else?

The hit and movement points regeneration rates with such an item are the same as they were before this update, double that of without one.

Hit points regeneration is the same as of last update.

Note that for hit and movement points regeneration with, or without, such an item, sleeping is faster than resting, and resting is faster than sitting.

Thanks to: Zarrin, for coding to make it possible for items to assist mana regeneration.
